The World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) together with the World Bank launched the first annual Strengthening IPA Advocacy Services Competition to recognize investment promotion agencies (IPAs) that implemented effective advocacy services.

The first joint The World Bank Group – WAIPA inaugural Strengthening IPA Advocacy Services Awards recognizes IPA’s valuable contributions to a resilient recovery and private sector growth and development.

Congratulations to Ethiopia Investment Commission on winning Gold, Toronto Global on winning Silver, Invest India on winning Bronze, and Invest Cyprus and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority for winning this year’s honorable mentions.

The award winners were announced on October 21, 2021 during the virtual World Investment Conference held alongside the UNCTAD World Investment Forum. More about trade and investment promotion organizations HERE.

Through this competition, the WAIPA and the WBG aim to emphasize the key benefits of IPAs’ advocacy services. The competition aims to collect and disseminate IPA advocacy success stories and raise awareness in a way that hopefully inspires more IPAs to play a stronger role in advocating for reforms.

WHY WAIPA?

The World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) was created in 1995. It was established as an Association under Swiss law. It has been registered in Geneva, as a non-governmental organization. From its very inception, WAIPA has represented an ever growing number of Member agencies. Through its wide range of activities, WAIPA provides the opportunity for investment promotion agencies (IPAs) to network and exchange best practices in investment promotion. WAIPA has always dedicated, and continues to dedicate, time and effort towards building the human resources capacity of its Member agencies. Membership is open to any agency, government body or entity whose prime function is “to promote any country, political sub-division of a country or other uncontested territory, as a destination for, or as source of investments”.
